Submissions for Ignite Phoenix close this Friday, July 25th, and I’m hoping we get a few more ideas in before the deadline. We already have a great list forming, with everything from firewalking to peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, but there are tons of things we would still love to see.
One area people tell me they’ve struggled with is ideas for technical talks. People are worried about being too technical or boring, and that doesn’t have to be the case at all. Consider a few videos from other Ignites – you could talk about areas where you’ve had problems and learned lessons like “Software Services over US Postal Service“. Or get more generic, and talk about “Five Steps to Unleash your inner Geek“. How about unusual issues you’ve faced or bizarre challenges, like “IT in Iraq“. Or talk about some of the ways to manage your time and work, like this session on the very popular “Getting Things Done“. I’ve met a lot of technical people now through groups like Tempe Nerds, Refresh Phoenix, and Refactor Phoenix and there is a mountain of outstanding technical ideas in their heads. If you have something to share, all we need for this Friday is just a two-sentence summary and we would love to hear your ideas!
Once submissions close on Friday, our volunteers will be go through them over the weekend to pick the final 16 for the event. We’ll notify everyone ASAP so you can start working on your presentation.
And if you’re just not interested in presenting, that’s fine – we still want you to come down on August 12th to cheer everyone on and have fun! Don’t forget to stop at our Upcoming link and RSVP for the big event!
